Description: This position provides support and education to Coders to improve complete and accurate coding for appropriate reimbursement. Responsibilities include coding compliance audits, corporate coding services, pre-billing review activities and coding staff development and training. Must be able to make independent decisions regarding documentation and accurate code assignments.

Hours: 40 hrs/week

Responsibilities:

  • Perform CPT & ICD-9 coding.
  • Develop, implement and review coding policies, procedures and goals.
  • Research coding requirements for new areas of business.
  • Provide leadership and training to ensure coders and physicians are prepared to transition to ICD-10.
  • Research and implement changes coding requirements. Makes system updates as needed.
  • Promote productive, efficient, effective and cooperative work relationships within the department and company.
  • Prioritize and assign tasks within the department.
  • Company liaison on coding, documentation and reimbursement issues for insurance follow-up staff and outside agencies. Interact with Administration to resolve identified problems.
  • Perform monthly coding audits with summary reports.
  • Assure continual education of all coding staff through publications, seminars, forum and in-house training.
  • Perform annual evaluations of coding staff with recommendations/comments.
  • Other responsibilities as required or assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Certifications such as AAPC, CCS, CPC RCC, RHIT, etc, helpful.
  • Five years coding experience required.
  • Computer experience with Microsoft software and data entry experience required.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state and local coding and PHI regulations.
  • Working knowledge of revenue cycle.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to trouble shoot, counsel and supervise.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with emphasis on detail and appropriate follow-up.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
